A base is a template for all artists here on DeviantArt that is usually there for people to doll on ( draw characters on them ). Most of them are plain for people to depend where the lighting is since most Base Makers draw the lighting for them. Some people prefer to use Microsoft Paint or Photoshop to draw over the base as well as using any other program of their choice. Others will use the base has a reference and may draw characters over the base in traditional art.
Credit is very important when making a base. Especially here on DeviantART. Credit is what makes sure you did not trace or claim the base as your own. If you forgot the Original Image to your base, most people would try and help out into finding the picture for you. However, many base users find it a problem if the base maker constantly uses an excuse saying 'they cannot find it anywhere'. Surely, soon enough you will be able to find your original image somewhere.
Frankendolling ( or Frankendoodling ) comes from the word ( or popular 'monster' ) Frankenstein. The purpose why it is called Frankendolling is because the Base User uses different parts of other bases in order to make a doll / finished product. One of the reasons people might Frakendoll is because the base itself has a slightly altered anatomy ( most users will do their best in 'recreating' the body ). However most Base Users find it easier ( if they don't have a lot of knowledge of the human anatomy ) to just use other parts of other bases. Most base makers will not allow this because most Frankendollers don't give full credit to all of the base makers. The number one rule of Frankendolling is to give credit to all base makers.
